US President Donald Trump has eased import tariffs on agricultural and industrial equipment, reducing them from 25 percent to 15 percent. The revised rates will remain in effect until the end of next year, offering relief to importers of machinery such as harvesters and other farm tools. The decision was taken to support investment in the agricultural sector and reduce production costs for manufacturers. Additionally, the scope of items eligible for tariff reductions has been significantly expanded, covering industrial equipment like bulldozers and forklifts, making their imports more affordable. The reduced tariffs will also apply to countries that already have trade agreements with the United States.
The White House further announced incentives to boost domestic metal production. Foreign manufacturers importing capital equipment can avail a reduced tariff of 10 percent if at least 85 percent of the steel and aluminum used is sourced from the United States. These concessions will remain in place until December 2027, aimed at strengthening the American industrial sector. The administration stated that the tariffs were originally imposed to protect national security and safeguard domestic industries from cheap foreign imports. Indian companies such as Mahindra and Mahindra, TAFE, Shaktiman, Fieldking, and Jain Irrigation, which export agricultural equipment to the US, are likely to benefit from this decision.
