Supreme Court Quashes FIRs Against CJP Protesters

The Supreme Court has quashed the FIRs registered against protesters who took part in the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP)-led student demonstrations between July 20 and 25. The relief does not extend to individuals with criminal antecedents. The court’s decision followed assurances from the Centre and several states that the cases linked to the protests would be withdrawn and that no fresh FIRs would be registered in connection with the same events.

The Centre also told the Supreme Court that it was committed to providing compensation to the families of students who died by suicide following the cancellation of the NEET-UG 2026 examination. The government sought three months to work out the modalities for the compensation, and the court directed it to complete the process within that period. Following the developments, the CJP withdrew its proposed September 5 protest march in Delhi.
