Government Gives Top Priority to TGSRTC Employees’ Welfare

Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar said the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) is giving priority to employee welfare and will recruit 1,500 new conductors. He said around 244 employees who were previously dismissed from service were reinstated after review by a special committee. Under the Bread Winners Scheme, 1,424 compassionate appointments have been provided to families of RTC employees who died while on duty. Pending benefits for retired employees will also be released soon, he added.

Speaking about the achievements of the RTC and Transport Department during the Congress government’s 1,000-day tenure, the minister said several major reforms had been introduced. The Mahalakshmi scheme providing free bus travel to women was launched within 48 hours of the government taking office, and 347.36 crore women passenger journeys have benefited from the facility so far. The state has purchased 2,932 new buses, including 1,024 electric buses currently in operation, while another 2,200 electric buses are expected to hit Hyderabad roads soon. The government is also working on a welfare board for auto workers and proposals for yellow number plates for bike taxis. Prabhakar said precautions were being taken to ensure that the merger of RTC employees with the government does not face the difficulties encountered in Andhra Pradesh.
