The Maoist movement is heading toward a turning point. In a letter released under the name of MCC zone representative Ananth, the group announced that all members will surrender and lay down arms starting January 1. The recent surrender of senior leaders Mallojula and Ashanna, along with the death of top commander Hidma in an encounter, significantly weakened the organization. With repeated appeals from the central government, the party has now decided to opt for a full ceasefire. They clarified that the government’s assurance of fair treatment encouraged them to take this step.
Ananth stated that giving up arms should not be seen as a betrayal of the people. The Centre’s Operation Kagar, launched to suppress Maoist activities, has put heavy pressure on their cadres. In Andhra Pradesh’s Maredumilli, a major encounter recently claimed the lives of Hidma and multiple key leaders, further crippling the movement.
Reports indicate that the party has been internally discussing the possibility of disarmament for some time. In a recent video, surrendered leader Mallojula expressed that the movement has lost direction and the continuous loss of lives deeply pained him. He stated that the country is changing, and it is better for Maoist cadres to surrender and rebuild their lives.
What once began as the People’s War for the oppressed gradually turned into a prolonged conflict with security forces. Over the past two years, Operation Kagar has left the Maoists significantly weakened. With leaders surrendering or dying in encounters, the movement appears to have reached its final stage.
Against this backdrop, the Maoist party has officially announced that they will begin disarmament and surrender from January 1.
