The pilots federation has strongly objected to the relaxations granted by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to IndiGo, calling the decision unsafe and irresponsible. According to the union, easing regulations for an airline that is already facing an acute pilot shortage sends a dangerous message and undermines the strict standards meant to protect passengers. They argue that such exemptions should never come at the cost of aviation safety.
The federation further alleged that IndiGo is deliberately creating a shortage of pilots by not addressing long-running issues related to recruitment, work conditions, and retention. They argue that giving operational flexibility in such situations is nothing short of “risking passengers’ lives”. The pilots have urged the DGCA to revoke the relaxations without delay and ensure that safety norms are strictly enforced without any exceptions.
