Dhaka: India has announced the temporary closure of its visa application centre in Dhaka, citing security concerns. The decision follows reports of provocative statements and threats from anti-social elements in Bangladesh.
The Indian Visa Application Centre (IVAC) located at Jamuna Future Park in Dhaka will remain closed from Wednesday, 2:00 PM onwards, according to an official statement issued by IVAC. Visa appointments scheduled for Wednesday will be rescheduled to a later date, the statement added.
Meanwhile, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs summoned Bangladesh High Commissioner Mohammad Riaz Hamidullah to convey serious concerns. India expressed apprehension that certain extremist groups are attempting to create unrest near the Indian High Commission in Dhaka.
India further emphasized that ensuring the safety and security of Indian diplomatic staff and missions is the responsibility of Bangladesh’s interim government, in accordance with international diplomatic norms.
