In a historic development, the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly unanimously passed a resolution seeking legal recognition for Amaravati as the sole capital of the state. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu introduced the resolution at 11:11 AM, urging the Central Government to amend the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act to provide clarity and permanence to the capital. He emphasized that Amaravati represents the aspirations of five crore people and that a stable and legally protected capital is essential for the state’s comprehensive development. The special Assembly session, held exclusively for this purpose, witnessed detailed discussions from ministers and legislators, highlighting the need to safeguard Amaravati’s status.
The resolution was passed unanimously and swiftly forwarded to key authorities, including the Union Home Minister and parliamentary leaders, indicating urgency ahead of upcoming parliamentary sessions. Leaders across the ruling alliance, including Pawan Kalyan, participated in the debate, stressing the importance of preventing future policy reversals. The move is being seen as a significant step to ensure legal protection for Amaravati, especially after previous controversies over multiple capital proposals. Notably, opposition members from YSR Congress Party were absent from the session, drawing criticism from ruling party leaders.
