Popular filmmaker C. Sundar is entering active politics for the first time by contesting in the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections. He will contest from the Madurai Central constituency, with polling across the state scheduled to take place in a single phase on April 23. His entry into politics has created interest among both film fans and political circles.
Sundar will contest as a candidate of the Puthiya Needhi Katchi party, which is part of the alliance led by All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam. Party founder A.C. Shanmugam confirmed his candidature and stated that Sundar will contest using the party’s symbol. His move marks a significant shift from cinema to public service.
Reacting to his political debut, his wife Khushbu Sundar, a senior leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party, said that Sundar aims to serve the people. She added that after receiving love from Tamil audiences for over three decades, he now wants to give back to society. The main competition in these elections is expected to be between the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and the AIADMK alliance.
