The Union Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved UDAN 2.0, a major initiative expected to significantly enhance regional air connectivity in Telugu states. Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjaraapu Ram Mohan Naidu stated that the scheme will enable the development of existing airstrips into full-fledged airports, including new facilities at Adilabad in Telangana and Nagarjuna Sagar in Andhra Pradesh. He also highlighted that UDAN 2.0 would facilitate the launch of flight services from Kurnool and Kadapa to Delhi and other major cities, strengthening connectivity and economic growth.
Speaking during an interaction following the launch of Noida International Airport, the minister outlined key investments under the scheme. Of the ₹28,000 crore allocation, ₹12,000 crore will be used to develop 100 airports, ₹3,500 crore for 200 heliports, and ₹10,000 crore for viability gap funding to support airlines. He also revealed that Bhogapuram Airport and the expanded Vijayawada Airport in Andhra Pradesh are expected to be operational by June.
