Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu called upon journalists to play a constructive role in the state’s development while addressing the 11th plenary meeting of the Indian Journalists Union (IJU) in Vijayawada. He stated that during the previous government, journalists did not even have the freedom to speak, but after the coalition government came to power, media in Andhra Pradesh has regained the freedom to question and express opinions. The Chief Minister emphasized that his government is journalist-friendly and committed to resolving their issues.
He also expressed concern over the declining values in journalism, urging media professionals to restore ethical standards. Chandrababu warned that political parties owning media houses could pose a serious threat to democracy. Referring to past incidents, he alleged that false narratives and misinformation were spread against him, highlighting the need for responsible journalism. He appealed to journalists to curb fake news and prevent character assassination on social media, ensuring that truth and accountability prevail in the media landscape.
