The cooking gas crisis in Andhra Pradesh is intensifying with each passing day. Supply to gas agencies has reportedly dropped by around 20% compared to earlier levels, while nearly 40% of deliveries are already pending. The state requires approximately 4,000 tonnes of gas per day to meet demand, but current government reserves stand at only about 14,000 tonnes.
The situation has been further aggravated by production disruptions caused by consecutive holidays in recent days. As a result, people are being forced to stand in long queues at gas agencies to obtain cylinders. The supply shortage has led to significant inconvenience for consumers across the state.
In this context, experts are suggesting increased use of alternatives such as induction stoves, electric cookers and PNG (piped natural gas). However, the cost of using PNG is estimated to be around ₹1,000 per month. Officials have also indicated that if the situation worsens further, there may be a need to encourage the use of kerosene once again.
