Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu announced that high-speed internet connectivity will be provided to every household in the state within the next 18 months. As part of the Amended BharatNet Project (ABNP), the government aims to expand digital connectivity across rural areas to ensure seamless delivery of government services through technology. A key cooperation agreement was signed between the Central and State governments at the Chief Minister’s camp office in Amaravati to strengthen digital infrastructure and provide fiber connectivity to nearly five lakh rural homes.
Under the project, the Centre has agreed to release ₹2,432 crore for implementation in Andhra Pradesh through a Special Purpose Vehicle named Andhra Pradesh BharatNet Infrastructure Limited (APBIL). The initiative will cover 13,426 gram panchayats by upgrading Phase-I networks, completing digital connectivity in Phase-II villages, and extending services to newly formed panchayats. The government will also focus on last-mile connectivity in demand-based villages, enabling digital governance, online education, telemedicine, digital payments, and e-governance services. CM Chandrababu Naidu highlighted that digital connectivity remains crucial for India’s digital transformation and praised ongoing efforts by the Union government in strengthening telecom infrastructure.
