

Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy announced that the government is formulating plans to distribute other essential commodities along with free rice through ration shops. He stated that this scheme will be implemented as soon as the state's financial situation strengthens further. Following the completion of the Kharif paddy procurement, he held a meeting in Hyderabad on Thursday with Civil Supplies Commissioner Stephen Ravindra and state and district-level officials, and presented certificates of appreciation to the officers who demonstrated outstanding performance. He also unveiled a booklet containing guidelines designed to overcome the problems encountered during paddy procurement.
Speaking at the meeting, the minister said that this Kharif season has created history by procuring 70.71 lakh tonnes of paddy in a single season, a feat unmatched anywhere else in the country, and transferring Rs. 19,000 crore to 15 lakh farmers. He clarified that rice millers who had defaulted on payments in the past were not given the CMR (Custom Milled Rice) quota. Uttam clearly stated that 863 defaulters were not allocated paddy in this Kharif season, and they will not be given an opportunity in the Yasangi (Rabi) season either.
