The Supreme Court has questioned why Waqf institutions should be exempted from paying court fees while approaching Waqf tribunals. A bench of Justices P.S. Narasimha and Aravind Kumar asked under which law such exemption was being sought and upheld a Gujarat High Court ruling that dismissed petitions for non-payment of court fees.
In a separate case, the Supreme Court refused to allow NEET-UG re-test to be conducted in a computer-based test (CBT) format, stating that the examination will continue in the existing pen-and-paper system. The court said that changing the exam mode abruptly is not practical and noted that the National Testing Agency (NTA) is already handling multiple challenges in conducting the exam.
