Cold weather has tightened its grip across the Telugu states since the first week of December, with conditions worsening significantly in the second week. Dense fog during early mornings and nights is affecting visibility, while both maximum and minimum temperatures have dropped sharply, causing concern.
The India Meteorological Department has issued a cold wave alert until December 24. Minimum temperatures in several areas are recorded 3 to 4 degrees below normal. In Telangana, Kohir in Sangareddy district recorded a low of 5°C, highlighting the severity of the cold. Districts such as Adilabad, Asifabad, Vikarabad, Medak, and Kamareddy have also witnessed a sharp fall in temperatures.
Hyderabad usually records minimum temperatures between 10 and 12°C, but the outskirts of the city are experiencing much lower levels. Poor visibility due to fog is creating difficulties for commuters, especially during early morning hours.
In Andhra Pradesh, the agency areas are facing even harsher conditions. Regions like Araku, Paderu, and Chintapalli in the erstwhile Visakhapatnam district have reported a steep decline in temperatures. Dense fog during mornings and nights is severely affecting vehicular movement.
The cold weather has also impacted dairy and vegetable vendors, while early-morning travelers are struggling with reduced visibility. Medical experts have advised children, the elderly, and people with respiratory issues to take extra precautions. Weather officials predict that the cold conditions may persist until the end of December.
