The Central Government has said that extensive use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the public health sector is delivering significantly improved outcomes. In an official statement released on Friday, the government noted that AI tools are helping make advanced medical expertise accessible to people across the country. AI is being deployed in key initiatives such as the National TB Elimination Programme, the National Diabetic Retinopathy Screening Programme, and the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme. As a result, TB control outcomes have improved by 27 percent, and over 4,500 early warning alerts related to epidemic threats have been issued.
The government further stated that AI has supported 282 million diagnostic consultations under the eSanjeevani telemedicine programme. AI-based systems such as Udyog Yantra have also played a vital role in monitoring malnutrition. From efficient management of infectious diseases to cancer care, from modernising Ayurveda to implementing the National One Health Mission, AI has emerged as a powerful enabler across multiple segments of India’s healthcare ecosystem, the statement added.
