The Akkineni family, which has a nearly nine decade long cinematic legacy, continues to represent three generations of passion for cinema. Nagarjuna, Naga Chaitanya and Akhil Akkineni recently opened up about their bond, family legacy and love for films in an exclusive interview with Variety India. The trio also featured on the cover of the publication’s second edition, with the photographs now creating buzz on social media.
Nagarjuna recalled how his father, Akkineni Nageswara Rao, treated cinema as his life and said his discipline and dedication shaped his own journey. He described Annapurna Studios as more than just a film facility, calling it a platform for aspiring filmmakers and actors. Nagarjuna also spoke about the pressure of being ANR’s son and encouraged his sons to take risks and build identities of their own.
Naga Chaitanya and Akhil revealed their strong admiration for Nagarjuna’s ‘Hello Brother’, recalling how they watched the film hundreds of times. Chaitanya said artists should not let the pressure of repeating success affect their natural instincts, while Akhil described the family’s responsibility as carrying the “golden baton” forward. Chaitanya also expressed interest in exploring diverse roles on OTT platforms. Together, the three emphasised that the Akkineni legacy is not just about stardom, but also about respecting cinema, maintaining discipline and staying connected to their roots.
