TRAI to Examine Airtel, Jio Complaints Against Vodafone Idea

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has said it will examine the objections raised by Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio against Vodafone Idea (Vi). TRAI Chairman A.K. Lahoti said on Monday that the regulator examines concerns whenever they are raised by any telecom operator. He confirmed that Airtel and Jio had communicated their concerns, which would now be reviewed. However, he did not clarify whether representatives of all three telecom operators would be called for further discussions on the matter.

Airtel and Jio have alleged that Vodafone Idea is encouraging customers to port their mobile connections to its network by offering special benefits. The two operators have approached TRAI, arguing that introducing special tariffs or incentives specifically aimed at encouraging network switching could violate telecom regulations. Responding to the allegations, Vodafone Idea said it believes in maintaining ethical standards in competition and has confidence in its products and the benefits offered to customers. The company also reiterated that it always operates in compliance with applicable laws.
