Tarun Tejpal Set to Surrender Before Delhi Police

Former Tehelka editor-in-chief Tarun Tejpal is set to surrender before the Delhi Police on Monday in compliance with a Supreme Court order. Tejpal is facing a case related to allegations of sexual assault against a junior female colleague in 2013. The Bombay High Court’s Goa Bench later convicted him and sentenced him to 10 years in prison. Challenging the verdict, Tejpal approached the Supreme Court and sought exemption from surrender, but the court made it clear that he must surrender before his appeal can be heard.

The case dates back to an incident in Goa in 2013, when the woman alleged that Tejpal sexually assaulted her inside a hotel lift during an event. He was arrested in November that year. In 2021, a Goa trial court acquitted Tejpal, but the Goa government challenged the verdict before the Bombay High Court. The High Court overturned the acquittal, convicted Tejpal and imposed a 10-year prison sentence.
