Iran's Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has called on the country's armed forces to respond strongly to any attack by the United States or Israel, regardless of its scale. His remarks have drawn a sharp reaction from US President Donald Trump, who claimed that American strikes had already destroyed a major portion of Iran's nuclear capabilities, with only two targets remaining. Trump asserted that the US could completely eliminate the country's remaining nuclear infrastructure within 10 minutes if it chose to do so. He also identified Pickaxe Mountain as one of the potential targets. Although negotiations with Tehran are reportedly underway, Trump said he did not trust Iran's leadership. Responding to questions about the timing of possible military action, he questioned whether the US would publicly announce its plans before launching an attack.
Pickaxe Mountain, locally known as Kuh-e Kolang Gaz La, is located in Iran's Zagros mountain range, approximately two kilometres from the Natanz nuclear complex. Israeli intelligence agencies have previously suspected that Iran may have relocated centrifuges required for its nuclear programme to underground facilities in the area. The US reportedly believes that nuclear-related activities may still be taking place at the site. Against this backdrop, Trump has repeatedly warned that the mountain could become a military target. Iran, meanwhile, has cautioned that any American attack on the facility could further escalate tensions across West Asia.
