The US government has granted approval for a major liquefied natural gas (LNG) export project off the Texas coast. The proposed deepwater LNG export port is estimated to cost $8.2 billion and is being led by Indian-origin entrepreneur Sharad Tak. Once operational, the facility is expected to increase the United States’ LNG export capacity by an estimated 7 to 9 per cent, strengthening the country’s position in the global energy market.
The project is expected to generate thousands of employment opportunities during its construction and operational phases. Construction is targeted to begin in 2027, with the port expected to become operational by 2029. The development is being viewed as a significant addition to US energy export infrastructure, with Sharad Tak’s leadership bringing an Indian-origin connection to the major undertaking.
