Cyclone Murasu has intensified over the southwest Bay of Bengal, raising concerns along the Andhra Pradesh coast. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast that the system will strengthen into a severe cyclonic storm by November 2 as it moves west-northwestwards. It is expected to cross the south Andhra Pradesh coast between Nellore and Narsapur by the morning of November 3. Winds of 100–110 kmph, with gusts reaching up to 120 kmph, are likely during landfall. The storm is also expected to bring heavy to extremely heavy rainfall to several parts of Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema.
Authorities have stepped up preparations as the storm approaches. The IMD has issued weather alerts for several districts, including red alerts for five districts for extremely heavy rainfall on November 2, while orange and yellow alerts have also been issued for other areas. Residents in coastal and low-lying regions are advised to remain alert, follow official weather updates and comply with instructions from local authorities. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea until Wednesday.
