Telangana Rakshana Sena chief Kalvakuntla Kavitha has written an open letter to Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, urging the state government to conduct special sessions of the Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council to discuss the inclusion of OBC caste enumeration and separate recording of Adivasi religion in the upcoming national census. With the door-to-door census exercise scheduled to begin in December, Kavitha has called for immediate discussions in both Houses to ensure that these issues are addressed before the enumeration process begins. She also urged the Chief Minister to respond to the concerns and protests being raised by OBC organisations across the country over caste enumeration.
In her letter, Kavitha highlighted that Adivasis have a distinct lifestyle, cultural identity and religious practices that deserve separate recognition in the census. She pointed out that their religion was recorded separately in previous census exercises and requested the government to continue the same practice in the upcoming census as well. Kavitha further proposed that the Assembly and Council pass a resolution seeking separate recognition of Adivasi religion and forward it to the Central Government for consideration.
