Criticism is growing over the excessive violence in recent Telugu films, with many viewers feeling that violent sequences are crossing the limits. Following the success of Marco, films featuring extreme violence appear to have increased. Earlier, bloodshed in action sequences was generally shown within limits, but filmmakers are now increasingly presenting graphic visuals, including beheadings and severed body parts, directly on screen. Certain scenes in The Paradise have reportedly made audiences uncomfortable, while Ranabaali has also drawn criticism for its excessive violence. Even Aadarsha Kutumbam, despite being a family-oriented film, sparked discussion over a beheading scene. Although the scene was shown indirectly, some viewers felt it was still disturbing.
A similar debate is surrounding Cult, starring and directed by Vishwak Sen. The promotional content itself featured intense violent visuals, leading some viewers to lose interest in the film. Reports also suggested that several theatres in Hyderabad witnessed low occupancy on its release day. Except for multiplexes such as Prasads and AMB, the film reportedly did not generate much excitement elsewhere. This has also raised questions about the assumption that young audiences always welcome extreme violence on screen. Viewers are increasingly expressing the opinion that violence should be shown only when the story demands it, rather than being included merely to create shock value.
