Andhra Pradesh Women’s Commission Chairperson Dr Rayapati Sailaja said the incident in which a Class 10 student was attacked with a saw in Raptadu, Anantapur district, had deeply distressed her. She said the Women’s Commission team responded soon after the incident and has been regularly monitoring the injured student’s health and the medical treatment being provided to her. Following the student’s transfer to a hospital in Bengaluru for better treatment, Sailaja spoke to her mother over the phone and offered words of support.
Sailaja assured the victim’s family that the Women’s Commission would stand by them and asked them to contact her if they needed any assistance or faced difficulties. She also expressed her hope for the student’s speedy recovery. The Chairperson urged women and girl students facing harassment or intimidation not to remain silent and to seek help immediately from their parents, teachers or the police. She stressed the need to prioritise the safety of women and girls and called on everyone to act responsibly to prevent such incidents from recurring.
