The Supreme Court has imposed a stay on tree felling activities around the eco-sensitive zone near KBR Park in Hyderabad’s Banjara Hills area. The matter is linked to the state government’s proposed underpass construction works around the park premises. During the hearing, the apex court directed authorities not to cut any trees within the 25 to 30-meter eco-sensitive zone surrounding the park until further orders. The next hearing in the case has been scheduled for July 27.
Senior Advocate K. Vivek Reddy informed the Supreme Court that the government was allegedly attempting to reduce the extent of the eco-sensitive zone and was taking advantage of the High Court vacation period to proceed with tree cutting. Environmental concerns surrounding the protection of greenery and biodiversity around KBR Park have triggered strong reactions from activists and local residents. The Supreme Court’s interim order is being viewed as a significant relief for environmental conservation efforts in the city.
