Scottish Parliament member Martin Day married Kerala-born Nithin Chand in a traditional Hindu ceremony at the famous Guruvayur temple in Kerala. The wedding was held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday in the presence of family members and close relatives. The couple had legally registered their marriage in the UK nine years ago, but Nithin had long wished to have a traditional wedding at Guruvayur. That wish was finally fulfilled.
Martin and Nithin first met in the UK in 2016, and their friendship soon developed into a relationship. Martin stood by Nithin when she faced visa-related difficulties and later introduced her to his family. Their plans to visit Guruvayur in 2018, 2019 and 2023 were disrupted by floods, the COVID-19 pandemic and family health issues. During their fourth visit, the couple finally completed the traditional ceremony, attended by Nithin’s son Vedik Shankar and members of both families.
