Tensions escalated in Bihar as the RJD’s Raj Bhavan march in Patna turned contentious over the AK-47 firing incident in Siwan. RJD MPs, MLAs, senior leaders and party workers marched towards Raj Bhavan from JP Golambar. Police stopped the protesters using water cannons and detained opposition leader and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav. RJD leaders alleged that the police action was carried out on the directions of Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary.
The protest was held over an incident on July 25, when students in Siwan were protesting against an alleged NEET question paper leak and a constable was seen firing an AK-47 rifle. The video of the incident went viral on social media. The constable was suspended and the district SP was transferred. The Bihar government told the Supreme Court that no one was injured and that the constable opened fire after being surrounded. RJD MP Misa Bharti questioned who had authorised the use of an AK-47 during the student protest and also raised concerns over paper leaks, unemployment and problems faced by students and youth.
