Former Congress leader Sajjan Kumar, who was serving a life sentence in connection with the 1984 anti-Sikh riots case, has died. Kumar reportedly fell seriously ill while lodged at Tihar Jail in Delhi. He was being taken to a hospital for medical treatment, but died before he could be admitted.
Kumar was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment in a case related to the killings of two Sikh men during the 1984 anti-Sikh riots. His conviction was part of the long-running legal proceedings into the violence that followed the assassination of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in 1984.
His death brings to an end his imprisonment while the case remains a significant part of the legal history surrounding the 1984 anti-Sikh violence.
