The Supreme Court on Monday expressed strong displeasure over the alleged NEET UG 2026 question paper leak and criticised the National Testing Agency (NTA) for failing to learn from previous incidents. The apex court observed that despite repeated directions and the formation of a monitoring committee after the 2024 paper leak controversy, the NTA had not taken adequate corrective measures. Notices were issued to the NTA, Union Government and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) seeking their responses on the matter.
The case came up after the Federation of All India Medical Association filed a petition demanding the creation of an independent body to conduct medical entrance examinations instead of the NTA. During the hearing, the court directed the NTA to submit an affidavit detailing the steps taken to implement the recommendations suggested by the monitoring committee constituted after the 2024 controversy. The court also questioned the agency’s accountability and asked the Centre and CBI to respond to the petition.
