Godavari Water Reaches North Andhra - CM Chandrababu Naidu

Godavari waters have entered North Andhra through the Polavaram Left Main Canal. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu performed special prayers and conducted Jal Harathi for the waters flowing from the cross regulator at Payakaraopeta in Anakapalli district. He sprinkled the sacred water over his head and unveiled a commemorative plaque. Farmers, women and local residents gathered along the canal to welcome the Godavari waters with flowers. The government has planned to provide irrigation water to 2.87 lakh acres and drinking water to 9.23 lakh people in the first phase.

Addressing a public meeting later, Chandrababu said the arrival of Godavari waters would transform barren lands in North Andhra into productive farmland. He said the government aims to take the waters to the Simhachalam temple next year, followed by Arasavalli and eventually the Vamsadhara region. Chandrababu said ₹4,192 crore had already been spent on the Polavaram Left Canal and another ₹800 crore would be spent to complete the remaining works. Officials said the project is also planned to supply 23.44 TMC of water for irrigation, drinking water and industrial requirements in Visakhapatnam and Anakapalli districts.
