USS Abraham Lincoln Arrives in Thailand After Long Deployment

The USS Abraham Lincoln has arrived at Thailand’s Laem Chabang port after an exceptionally long deployment, bringing around 5,000 U.S. sailors and Marines to the region. The carrier spent 286 days at sea and nearly seven months operating in the U.S. Central Command area before beginning its return journey. The scheduled port visit is intended to give the crew an opportunity to rest and recharge. Many personnel are expected to visit Pattaya, a popular resort city located near the port. Local businesses, including hotels, restaurants, transport services and entertainment establishments, are anticipating an economic boost from the visit.

At the same time, Thai authorities have stepped up security measures in Pattaya, particularly around nightlife and tourist areas. The city has a long association with U.S. military personnel dating back to the Vietnam War, when American troops frequently visited the area for rest and recreation. Prostitution remains illegal in Thailand despite its presence in some tourist districts, prompting authorities to increase enforcement and patrols ahead of the sailors’ shore leave. Recent raids reportedly resulted in dozens of people being detained. Officials hope the visit will strengthen tourism and local businesses while ensuring safety and maintaining Pattaya’s efforts to promote itself as a more family-friendly destination.
