Sridhar Vembu, the co-founder of Zoho Corporation, has won widespread appreciation after a photograph of him traveling on Japan's iconic Shinkansen while wearing a traditional white shirt and South Indian veshti went viral on social media. The image highlighted Vembu's simplicity and deep connection to his roots. Although some social media posts exaggerated the moment by claiming he was rushing to catch the train, the widely circulated photograph actually showed him comfortably seated inside the high-speed train.
Vembu's visit to Japan was not merely a personal trip but part of a larger mission focused on strengthening rural entrepreneurship. Accompanied by his friend Britto, founder of Takumi Motion Controls, he toured rural prefectures, including Wakayama, to explore partnerships between Japanese precision manufacturers and rural Indian enterprises. The initiative aims to promote local craftsmanship, encourage technology exchange, and create new opportunities for small businesses in both countries, reflecting Vembu's long-standing commitment to rural development.
