India Angered by Pakistan’s Conduct

India has lodged a strong protest with Pakistan after a Pakistani naval vessel collided with an Indian Navy warship in the Arabian Sea. The incident took place on September 15 in international waters in the northern Arabian Sea, according to India’s Ministry of External Affairs. Officials said the Pakistani vessel approached an Indian warship on a routine surveillance mission at high speed and manoeuvred in an unsafe and unprofessional manner, resulting in the collision. No major damage was reported.

Following the incident, the Ministry of External Affairs summoned Pakistan’s Chargé d’Affaires in New Delhi and lodged a strong protest. India said the conduct of the Pakistani naval vessel was in direct contravention of provisions of the 1991 agreement between the two countries concerning advance notice of military exercises, manoeuvres and troop movements. Pakistan was urged to ensure that its military units exercise due care and comply with relevant agreements to prevent similar incidents in the future.
