High Alert in Srikakulam Amid Cyclone Threat

Authorities have stepped up preparedness in Srikakulam district amid the threat of severe weather and heavy rainfall. The district administration has announced holidays for schools and Anganwadi centres in view of the weather conditions and directed education officials to take decisions based on local circumstances. Overcast conditions have already prevailed across the district, with the possibility of heavier rainfall later in the day. A control room has also been set up at the Collectorate to coordinate disaster response measures and provide assistance during emergencies.

Minister Kinjarapu Atchannaidu reviewed the situation with District Collector Swapnil Dinkar Pundkar, the Superintendent of Police and officials from various departments. He directed irrigation, revenue and power officials to remain alert and asked authorities to warn residents in coastal villages and areas along river basins. Officials were also instructed to shift people from low lying areas to safer locations wherever necessary. The minister advised people to avoid standing under trees, near dilapidated buildings and hoardings, and stressed coordinated preparedness across departments to minimise the risk to life and property.
