The central government has issued notices to Telegram, focusing on security concerns in online messaging platforms. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has directed the platform to take immediate action against channels and content involved in copyright violations. Telegram has been asked to submit a report within 15 days detailing the steps taken. The government emphasized that copyright infringement is not just a civil offense but also a criminal act and instructed the platform to remove pirated content at the earliest.

The government has also asked Telegram to explain the grievance redressal system in place for producers, OTT platforms, and investigative agencies. This move comes after allegations of a NEET question paper leak on the platform, which had earlier led to a temporary ban. Meanwhile, notices were also sent to Instagram and Meta over controversial advertisements and concerns related to cyber fraud and harmful content involving minors.
