PV Sindhu’s World Championships Run Ends After Three-Game Thriller

India’s star shuttler PV Sindhu’s campaign at the BWF World Championships 2026 in New Delhi has come to an end. Sindhu suffered a 11-21, 21-15, 17-21 defeat against China’s Wang Zhi Yi in the women’s singles pre-quarterfinals. The nearly 90-minute thriller saw Sindhu fight back strongly after losing the opening game, but she could not close out the deciding game.

Sindhu lost the first game 11-21 before making a strong comeback to win the second 21-15 and force a decider. Wang Zhi Yi eventually prevailed 21-17 in the third game to advance to the quarterfinals. Wang also required medical attention after an injury during the contest but continued to compete. In the men’s singles, India’s Ayush Shetty was also eliminated in the Round of 16 after losing 19-21, 11-21 to Indonesia’s Alwi Farhan.
