The Andhra Pradesh government has taken two significant decisions concerning liquor sales in the state. The Excise Department has approved the introduction of new liquor bottle sizes of 150 ml and 200 ml, which will soon be available in the market. Currently, liquor is sold in 90 ml, 180 ml, 375 ml, 750 ml, and 1,000 ml bottles. Following proposals from liquor suppliers, the government amended the relevant rules to accommodate the new sizes. Under the revised norms, a case will contain 60 bottles of 150 ml and 45 bottles of 200 ml.
In another major move, the government has ordered the removal of all liquor brand-related boards, flex banners, and hoardings from liquor shops and bars across the state. Excise Minister Kollu Ravindra directed officials to strictly enforce the ban, stating that liquor brands should not be promoted through indirect advertising. Authorities observed that several companies were displaying prominent brand names while using soda or packaged drinking water registrations as a means of promotion. Shop and bar owners have been asked to cooperate in implementing the new regulations.
