El Niño May Intensify Further.. WMO Warns of Extreme Weather Impact

El Niño conditions developing across the Pacific Ocean are expected to strengthen further and could reach an extremely strong level, according to the World Meteorological Organization (WMO). The organization said the phenomenon may continue until February 2027 and could have a major impact on global weather patterns, including rainfall and temperatures. The effects may increase the risk of drought, extreme heat and flooding in different regions.

WMO Secretary-General Celeste Saulo highlighted the possible weather risks in a report released on Thursday. India is also expected to feel the impact of El Niño. The India Meteorological Department has already indicated that the phenomenon could continue until February 2027. The IMD has also forecast that rainfall during the current month may remain below 91 percent of the long-term average.
