Apple is widely expected to enter the foldable smartphone segment with its first-ever foldable device, reportedly called the iPhone Fold, in 2026. However, it may not stop there. According to Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman, Apple is also exploring a second foldable form factor in the form of a clamshell-style phone, tentatively referred to as the iPhone Flip, which could arrive after the iPhone Fold.
As per Gurman’s Power On newsletter, Apple is considering a smaller foldable iPhone that could launch in the second half of 2026. The rumoured iPhone Flip is expected to feature a square, clamshell-style design, similar to devices like the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip series and Motorola Razr. While Apple has not officially confirmed these plans, the development of such a device is said to be uncertain at this stage.
Meanwhile, Apple reportedly expects strong demand for its first foldable iPhone, which could expand interest in multiple iPhone form factors. The iPhone Fold is said to feature a 5.5-inch outer display, minimal crease around the hinge, dual rear and front cameras, and a flatter folding surface. It is expected to be powered by the A20 Pro chipset built on 2nm technology, along with Apple’s C2 modem. For security, Touch ID may be integrated into the power button. Apple could also introduce a larger book-style foldable iPhone in the future.
