Tim Cook is set to step down as Apple’s Chief Executive Officer after nearly 15 years at the helm. Apple has officially announced that John Ternus, its senior vice president of Hardware Engineering, will become the company’s next CEO effective September 1, 2026. Cook will continue with Apple as executive chairman and will remain involved in selected areas, including engagement with policymakers.
Cook took over as Apple CEO in 2011, succeeding co-founder Steve Jobs. During his tenure, Apple expanded significantly across products and services and saw an extraordinary rise in its market value. The company’s valuation grew from under $400 billion when Cook took charge to around $4 trillion, while Apple also introduced products such as the Apple Watch and AirPods and expanded its services business.
