The Australian cricket team's journey in the T20 World Cup 2026 is hanging by a thread. Following a shocking loss to Zimbabwe earlier, Australia suffered another major blow on Monday, losing to Sri Lanka by 8 wickets in Pallekele. Pathum Nissanka's brilliant century (100* off 52 balls) helped Sri Lanka chase down 182 comfortably, making them the first team from Group B to qualify for the Super 8s.
Australia has only one match left against Oman. Even if they win, their fate depends on Zimbabwe. If Zimbabwe wins either of their next two matches (against Ireland or Sri Lanka), Australia will be officially eliminated from the tournament. As of now, Mitchell Marsh’s side needs a miracle to stay in the competition.
