TG Safe officials conducted inspections at 22 hotels and restaurants across the city on Saturday and detected several food safety violations. Multiple establishments were found operating in unhygienic conditions. Cockroaches, flies and rodent droppings were spotted in kitchens. Officials also found non-vegetarian and vegetarian food stored together in refrigerators, leftover food being resold and previously used cooking oil being reused. These practices raised serious concerns over food hygiene and safety standards.
During the inspections, officials seized rotten vegetables, fungus-contaminated food items and expired products. A total of 544 kilograms of rotten vegetables and contaminated food were destroyed. Show-cause notices were issued to eight hotels for serious violations, while the licences of 14 hotels and restaurants were suspended over food safety lapses.
