The High Court has temporarily stayed the implementation of Government Order (GO) 205, issued by the State Excise Department on October 19, regarding the collection of Special Privilege Fee from bars and restaurants across the state. The court ordered that the implementation of the GO be suspended for four weeks, providing temporary relief to bar owners. Several bar owners had approached the High Court by filing petitions challenging the government's decision to collect the additional fee and questioning the order issued by the Excise Department.
A bench headed by Justice N. Rajeshwar Rao heard the petitions and examined the arguments presented by both sides. After considering the submissions, the bench issued interim orders staying the implementation of the Special Privilege Fee GO for four weeks. The court also issued notices to the Excise Department, seeking its explanation regarding the matter. The next hearing has been adjourned by four weeks, and the case will be taken up again after the department submits its response.
