India lost the second T20I against South Africa by 51 runs, allowing the hosts to level the five-match series 1–1. The third match will be played on December 14 in Dharamsala.
South Africa, after losing the toss, were asked to bat first and posted a strong total of 213 runs in 20 overs. Quinton de Kock was the star of the innings, smashing 90 runs, and holding the innings together brilliantly. After their defeat in the first T20, South Africa came out aggressively in this match. Despite losing only four wickets, they kept the scoreboard moving as Indian bowlers struggled. De Kock’s steady innings ended in the 16th over when he was run out off Varun Chakaravarthy’s bowling - a crucial breakthrough for India. However, India failed to maintain pressure in the death overs, allowing South Africa to rebuild. Aiden Markram (29), Donovan Ferreira (30*), and David Miller (20*) added valuable runs to take the score past 200. For India, Varun Chakaravarthy picked up two wickets, while Axar Patel took one. Arshdeep Singh had a difficult outing, conceding 54 runs in his four overs, including seven wides in one over - an unwanted record.
In reply, India had a disastrous start. The team lost three wickets inside the powerplay. Shubman Gill was dismissed for a duck, Abhishek Sharma for 17, and captain Suryakumar Yadav for just 5. After this collapse, Axar Patel and Hardik Pandya attempted to rebuild the innings. But once Hardik Pandya (20) fell at the score of 118, the Indian batting lineup crumbled quickly. India were bowled out for 162, falling well short of the target. Tilak Varma was the lone bright spot, scoring an impressive 62, finishing as India’s top scorer.
For South Africa, Ottneil Baartman was exceptional with the ball, taking four wickets. Lungi Ngidi, Marco Jansen, and Lutho Sipamla contributed with two wickets each, sealing a comprehensive victory for the hosts
