England suffered a seven wicket defeat to Australia in the 2026 ICC Women's T20 World Cup final at Lord's on Sunday. Chasing 151, Australia reached the target in just 17.1 overs, thanks to superb knocks from Beth Mooney (64) and Phoebe Litchfield (48). With the victory, Australia lifted the Women's T20 World Cup trophy for a record seventh time.
England captain Nat Sciver-Brunt expressed deep disappointment after the loss. She said England had played outstanding cricket throughout the tournament and believed the World Cup was within their reach, especially with the final being played at home. However, she admitted her team failed to deliver under pressure, while Australia used their experience brilliantly in the title clash.
Sciver-Brunt also revealed that England would have chosen to bowl first had they won the toss and acknowledged that 150 was not a competitive total on the pitch. She praised Australia's batting depth and Beth Mooney's match winning innings. Thanking the home fans for their unwavering support, Sciver Brunt said the defeat was painful but vowed that England would learn from the experience and return stronger.
