India A scripted history with a sensational performance in Lucknow as KL Rahul delivered a batting masterclass, scoring an unbeaten 176 runs, guiding his team to chase down a mammoth 412-run target against Australia A. This is now the highest successful run chase by any ‘A’ team in cricket history. With this record-breaking win, India A sealed the series 1-0, after the first match ended in a draw. Rahul received tremendous support from Sai Sudharsan, who also scored a brilliant century, contributing to a crucial 78-run stand, while Dhruv Jurel’s quickfire 56 ensured the chase was completed on Day 4.
India A started Day 4 at 169/2, still needing 243 runs for victory. The match was evenly poised, but an early wicket fell when nightwatchman Manav Suthar departed for just 5 runs off 29 balls. Rahul and Sudharsan then joined forces again, having earlier shared a 65-run stand before Rahul retired hurt on Day 3. Both batters looked in complete control, building the innings patiently. Sudharsan reached his half-century and began accelerating, closing in on Rahul’s score. Rahul brought up his century shortly after lunch, as the Australian bowlers struggled to find any breakthroughs. Soon after, Sudharsan too reached his hundred but was dismissed immediately by off-spinner Corey Rocchiccioli.
Despite still needing 145 runs, Dhruv Jurel played a fearless innings, smashing 56 off 66 balls with five boundaries and three sixes, releasing the pressure from Rahul. With the partnership flourishing, Rahul continued his calm approach, reaching 150 and eventually finishing with a marathon *176 (16 fours, 4 sixes)**. His partnership of 115 runs with Jurel was instrumental in India’s victory. Even after Jurel’s dismissal, Rahul stood firm while Nitish Kumar Reddy contributed crucial runs with three boundaries as India A chased down the target with five wickets remaining.
This victory not only gave India A a 1-0 series win but also etched their name in cricket history as one of the most remarkable run chases ever seen at the A level.
