Pakistan has decided to move forward with its participation in the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup, with the national team set to travel to Sri Lanka. According to sources, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has prepared the team’s schedule, and the squad is expected to arrive in Colombo on February 2. An official announcement is likely to be made on Friday. Earlier, reports had suggested that Pakistan was considering boycotting the tournament after Bangladesh was excluded, and there was also speculation that the team did not want to face India during the competition.
However, the BCCI and the ICC did not respond to Pakistan’s demands or hold any discussions on the issue. Realising that withdrawing from the tournament would result in heavy financial and sporting losses, the PCB decided to send the team. Sources said Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif advised PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi to prioritise the future of Pakistan cricket and maintain healthy relations with other cricketing nations. As per earlier arrangements, Pakistan will continue to play all its matches of ICC tournaments hosted in India until 2027 at neutral venues.
