The Sun Group, owners of IPL franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad, has acquired the Leeds-based team in England’s prestigious The Hundred tournament. The franchise, previously known as the Northern Superchargers, has been rebranded as Sunrisers Leeds. The deal is reportedly valued at around €100 million. Earlier jointly owned by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and Yorkshire County Cricket Club, this team has now become the first franchise in The Hundred to move into complete private ownership.
Reacting to the development, Sunrisers Hyderabad co-owner Kavya Maran said, “Sunrisers is not just a team; it is a family, an emotion, and a passion. We are ready to paint Headingley in orange and play fearless, exciting cricket.” Along with Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL and Sunrisers Eastern Cape in South Africa’s T20 league, Sunrisers Leeds has now been added to the group’s global brand. These changes will come into effect from the 2026 season, which will also see player recruitment shift from a draft system to auctions, along with a significant increase in player salaries.
