Thiruvananthapuram: After making 2025 memorable by winning the Women’s ODI World Cup, the Indian women’s cricket team capped off the year in grand style. India completed a comprehensive 5–0 clean sweep against Sri Lanka in the five-match T20I series. In the final T20I played on Tuesday, Harmanpreet Kaur’s team registered a 15-run victory.
Asked to bat first after losing the toss, India posted 175 for 7 in the allotted 20 overs. In reply, Sri Lanka were restricted to 160 for 7, falling short of the target. Openers Hasini Perera (65) and No.3 batter Imesha Dulani (50) fought back with half-centuries, but the rest of the batting line-up failed to provide sustained support. For India, Deepti Sharma, Arundhati Reddy, Vaishnavi Sharma, Amanjot Kaur, Sreecharani and Sneh Rana claimed one wicket each, playing a key role in the victory.
In India’s innings, captain Harmanpreet Kaur top-scored with a fine 68, anchoring the team through a difficult phase. Arundhati Reddy provided late momentum with a brisk unbeaten 27, while Amanjot Kaur contributed 21. G. Kamalini, Shafali Verma, Richa Ghosh and Deepti Sharma were dismissed cheaply. At one stage, India were struggling at 77 for 5, but a crucial 61-run partnership for the sixth wicket between Harmanpreet and Amanjot helped stabilise the innings. For Sri Lanka, Chamari Athapaththu, Rashmika Sewwandi and Kavisha Dilhari picked up two wickets each, while Nimasha Madushani claimed one. With one wicket in this match, Deepti Sharma created history by becoming the highest wicket-taker in women’s T20 internationals. She surpassed the previous record held by Australia’s Megan Schutt (151 wickets), cementing her place at the top of the all-time wicket-takers’ list.
